About Michael Waltrip
This 2001 and 2003 Daytona 500 champion followed in the footsteps of
his older brother, driver Darrell Waltrip. A defining moment came
in 1981, when Michael won the Mini-Modified division track championship
at Kentucky Motor Speedway.
By 1985, Michael was racing beside the greats in the Winston Cup.
In 1986, he was runner-up for Winston cup Rookie of the Year. In 1996,
he won "The Winston," becoming the first driver ever to win
the event after transferring from the Winston Open.
In 2003, Waltrip clocked eight top-five finishes and hopes for more
in 2004.
